Cataract Surgery and COVID Changes

On 30th July 2021, NSW Health announced that "non-urgent elective surgery will be temporarily postponed at public hospitals in Greater Sydney, excluding the Illawarra Shoalhaven and Central Coast Local Health Districts, from Monday, 2 August." This includes most cataract surgery.

At Eye and Retina Specialists, our surgeons are continuing to operate at private hospitals. For those living within the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of concern, a negative COVID swab taken within 72 hours from the planned theatre date is required.

The COVID-19 lockdown situation in Sydney is continuing to develop, and changes may be required as the NSW Health advice changes. If you have existing surgery booked, please contact our reception team for any questions.

If you are a new patient requiring cataract surgery, we have planned additional theatre lists available in the coming weeks and months so contact our reception team with your referral to make an appointment to be assessed by our surgeons. We wish everyone best wishes and to stay safe during this difficult period.
