Retina FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. Do I Need a Referral ?
In order to receive financial rebates from Medicare, patients require a valid referral from their general practitioner, optometrist or other medical specialist. Having a recent referral ;AP provides your eye specialist with information about your general and eye health, and It also facilitates collaborative care and communication between your eye specialist and your primary care provider.
A referral is not required for overseas patients with private insurance, or for local patients who do not wish to claim a Medicare rebate.
2. Is My Referral Still Valid?
Referrals from GPs and optometrists are valid for 12 months from the date of consultation. Referrals from medical specialists are valid for 3 months from the date of consultation. If you are unsure if your referral is still valid, it is important to contact our reception prior to your appointment to check.
3. What Locations Do You Cover?
We regularly treat patients from across Sydney, including local suburbs such as Waterloo, Zetland, Alexandria, Redfern, Rosebery, Queens Park, Kensington, Kingsford, Randwick, Earlwood, Mascot, Marrickville, the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs and surrounding areas. 4. Do Eye Injections Hurt ?
It is normal to be a little apprehensive or even scared of the thought of an eye injection. Most patients experience little to no pain, and may feel a mild pressure sensation. Anaesthetic drops are used to keep the procedure as comfortable as possible. Local anaesthetic may also be used when required.
