Patients considering laser eye surgery are often interested in understanding the differences between SMILE Pro and LASIK, including recovery, flap creation, dry eye considerations and suitability for different lifestyles and occupations.

In this video, Dr Linda Zheng discusses some of the key similarities and differences between modern SMILE Pro and LASIK procedures, and explains why careful individual assessment remains important before deciding which option is most appropriate.

SMILE Pro and LASIK can both achieve excellent visual outcomes in suitable patients, but they involve different surgical techniques.

SMILE Pro is a flapless lenticule extraction procedure performed using the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 platform, while LASIK involves creation of a thin corneal flap followed by excimer laser reshaping of the underlying cornea.

Some patients are particularly attracted to SMILE Pro because of its minimally invasive flapless approach, while others may still be better suited to LASIK. A detailed refractive assessment remains essential before deciding which procedure is most appropriate for the individual eye.
